Skye here we come!

Monday October 28, 2024

After repacking the car we went to Glenfinnan (yes, the famous bridge from Harry Potter!) We told the kids that we were there to watch the bridge and not the Jacobite running on it. This to avoid disappointments. Of course we understood that we wouldn’t be alone up there. However, after arriving on site we soon learned that we picked the right (or wrong, matters of oppinion) time. No more then 20 minutes later the Jacobite train should pass us.
So naturally we switched to tourist mode, setup the tripod and camera and waited for the train to appear.
And we waited………….. Still waited…………… And then another victim came up the mountain and asked us if were sure that the train was even running that day. Well, looking at the other hundreds of people scattered al over the mountain, you would assume so. As there were some contradictions in the online timetables I dicided to just call the Westcoast Railways and ask them. “No sir, the last service was last Friday”. So, we did take some pictures and went up for a bit.

On that higher point, looking over Loch Shiel you could see the refelection of the clouds in the Loch. Beautiful sight!

While going down again we noticed that all people were still there… waiting… Maybe they are still waiting ;).
Behind the monument of Glenfinnan we found another really nice angle of the loch.

From here it was still a 2 hours drive to even reach Skye let alone getting to our final destination. So it was time to hit the road again. Right before leaving the mainland we passed the Eilean Donan castle. Beautiful sight. And altough we couldn’t enter the castle te last time we figured that we wanted to try to reach our house before sundown. So of we went. But, not before making a quick shot.

Both being a fan of Skye we couldn’t help it… The Skye bridge.

A couple of days before arriving to the house we got an extensive email with all there was to know about the house. One of the things mentioned was the ‘steep driveway’ to the house. I remember thinking, steep driveway, we survived the south of Spain earlier this year. We will survive this as well! But… Nearly made it! The car was so heavy from all the luggage + the four of us that it took some hefty ESP getting there. And there we were… our beautiful house on Skye. Pretty neat, right?!
