Defy Kilmorack, Loch Ness and Inverness

Monday & Tuesday November 4th & 5th, 2024

After being in this house for a week, we had mixed feelings about leaving. Partly sad, but also eager to start the second part of our trip! Luckily we started packing the evening before as it was a lot. Really a lot. But all of our clothes were clean and dry so a great reset for part 2.

We left the house in time as we wanted to visit the Talisker Distillery. Sadly we couldn’t be part of a tour because Jesse was too young. But nevertheless I wanted to have been there at least. Beautiful building, well inside that is and nice displays. But, unless you want to buy that particular bottle it’s better to buy your whisky in the NL.

If you zoom out on the map a bit you’ll a bit more perspective about the drive from Skye to Kilmorack. But I kept this zoomlevel because this page is merely about the trip around Loch Ness.

Will certainly come back here !

And there we went… leaving Skye (sounds dramatic, as it should) on to Kilmorack. This was quite a drive (about 3hrs). Since I wasn’t driving I figured we could find a nice spot with a lookout over Loch Ness. I guess Google wasn’t up-to-date there. After hitting the bottomplate several times we gave up and headed back to the official road.

We figured that once arriving at the house we wouldn’t want to have to get out again. So we got us a simple meal headed to our BnB.

This was our stay in Beauly – Kilmorack.

It was very small, but the kids had their own bed upstairs, the beds were ok, the shower was warm and we had a fireplace. Which was magically restocked wheb we came back the next day. Big thanks to our host Emma!

From here we wanted to do a trip around the famous Loch Ness and do a little shopping in Inverness.

After a good night sleep we packed the cooler and went on our way. Our first stop would have been Urguhart castle. But it appeared to be closed due to renovations. So we moved on to Invermoriston. After parking it’s a short stroll towards a beautiful viewpoint of the Invermoriston bridge.

This is the first time I have used bracketing with our new camera. Really cool to be able to see every detail.

The evening was setting in so it was time to had to Inverness. Speaking about a switch of scenery. So much people… But we had some time to wander around. We already booked at the restaurant. We had eaten there before and wondered if the food was still that good. And it was!
